damage to ie6

Postby ujo on 10-05-2011 12:39

hello. your prog is precious, no doubting that... but I can't use internet explorer 6 anymore, nor embedded IE.
Would be one of those JS. maybe jumplist feature? still it's just 99% that it was caused by your stript, but it happened on two computers right after accessing ampjuke...
it's this error http://www.winxptutor.com/ieabout.htm
solution there is not helping, neither is reinstalling. nor uninstalling IE8, updating-repairing ie6 with service pack, reinstalling ie8... my guess is, something get stick in registry.
it's not just 'about box' reporting error, i can't right click, can't use text boxes nor write nothing inside them. plus some other problems.
now I don't need any jokes or advices to upgrade over 10 years old browser.
I use it for web developing and as my IDE is using embedded IE, this too is not working now as it should.
as for the second PC, it's a bigger issue as it's company's PC which only purpose is to access server where ONLY ie6 is working. So that serious this is.

Any idea what happened there? how to fix this. Is someone willing to test this further? e.g run registry tracker before accessing page with ie6 and see what's going on there.
ie6 is available here http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE

i went back to my problem today, going through registry this time. after some steps it's back working OK.
This is very BROAD solution, but working:

- uninstall all IE browsers (ie7, ie8, ie9)
- delete registry keys with whole tree under it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
- install back your IE8 or IE9

I don't want to spend time with this further, sure not all steps/registries are required for fixing.. If someone would crack the cause and registry settings which is causing this, pls let us know here.
