Brad,
My intention was not to scare you from doing this.
Not under any circumstance.
I've been in contact from time to time with persons who are using AmpJuke to host music for friends, family, neighbours, class mates, co-workers, whatever.
There's even a church community (:!:) in USA who is using AmpJuke... almost added "...God only knows for what..." to the last sentence...LOL...sorry, it's just my twisted humor - didn't mean to offend anyone.
So far, I haven't heard about any legal 'issues' from anybody.
A close friend of mine is hosting >20000 tracks using AmpJuke, mainly for his rather large family. I'm 100% sure he haven't had any "issues" so far.
I'm letting others access my AmpJuke box whenever friends and/or family ask for it, - f.ex. to have some party music - it's easier compared to driving there with a bunch of CD's, the old 12" vinyl records and a turntable
Some people who are using AmpJuke, are asking for a 'self-registration' feature, - I (don't) wonder why...
By the way: Self registration
will be an optional/configurable feature in a future release.
Hey - all my stuff is ripped from CD's and vinyl as well (just like you: my own) so I cannot remember when I actually popped a CD into the player the last time....certainly not in 2007....apart from in the car, of course.
Hell...the net is full of 'gray' stuff:
Ezmo,
Italo music (if you like that), even a
music search engine where you can lookup+play music (and download it, if you know how), there's
The Pirate Bay, and of course the 'good old' filesharing programs (
pick any, and knock yourself out).
My point is, with all of the above stuff in mind, I'm sure that
your project - legal or not, I'm not the one to judge - is way, way below the "radar" of whoever (well...we know who) is looking for the next fight against 'filesharing' sites (if
http://music.gotalkaboutit.com should ever fall into that category).
//Michael.
P.S. And yes: Your site is certainly very fast when accessed here from a "standard" (not major, not minor) ISP in Denmark (I have "reliable" 4Mb down/1Mb up), - and I don't even live in (or near) a major city.
